Send Photos, Please
One of my favorite things to do on this blog is demonstrate a point about museum writing by rewriting an existing sign or label.
Sometimes as I start work, I realize I can’t fix the label’s problems without access to resources I don’t have—resources such as the curator/content expert or the exhibit’s educational goals. So, out of about a dozen labels I’ll look at, I can usually only rewrite one of them well enough that it’s worth posting here on the blog.
Why am I telling you this? Because I need a larger sample of labels to look at, and this is where you come in! If, in your travels to various museums, zoos, science centers, botanical gardens, etc., you find labels you think could use rewriting, please take photos and send them to me. I’d also love photos of labels you think are examples of excellence, silliness, or any unique feature you think worthy of commentary. You can have a photo credit or remain anonymous, as you prefer.
