How does your choice of font affect the way your message is received?

First, it may affect whether your message is received. That seems obvious. If your text is too small or otherwise difficult to read, visitors may never take in what you want to share.

But it turns out that it doesn’t end there! Once your words have been read, the effect of font legibility may be opposite our expectations…

Yet overconfidence also develops as a result of the brain’s natural tendency to find shortcuts – and to quickly forget that it used them. In a recent report in the journal PNAS, researchers at Harvard and Duke had college students take what they thought was an I.Q. test.

 

I still come down on the side of legibility. But it’s always good to have our assumptions challenged.
